Solution :

Two tape A and B can together fill a swimmmg pool in 15 days taps.

=> 15A + 15B = 1 ...........(1)

A and B are kept open for 12 days and then tap B is closed It takes another 8 days for the pool to be filled.

=> 12A + 20B = 1 ...........(2)

Multiply both eq (1) and (2) by 12 and 15 respectively.

=> 180A + 180B = 12.........(3)

=> 300A + 180B = 15.........(4)

Solving (3) and (4), we get,

=> A = 1/40

•°• A would take 40 days to fill the pool.

Put the value of A in (2),

=> 1/2 + 12B = 1

=> 12B = 1/2

=> B = 1/24

•°• B would take 24 days to fill the pool.
