Answer:

1)8

2)41

Step-by-step explanation:

1)let joy age be x

Age 2 years ago=x-2

Let mary age be y

2 years ago age=y-2

Now,y-2=3(x-2)

y-2=3x-6

y=3x-6+2=3x-4 --------------- (1)

AND,(y+5)-(x+5)=12

Substituting value of y from (1):

(3x+4+5)-(x+5)=12

3x+9-x-5=12

2x+4=12

2x=8

x=4

Substituting value of x in (1):

y=3(4)-4

y=12-4

y=8

2)let jay age be x

Jay's father's age is 2x

x+20=2/3(2x+20)

x+20=4x/3+40/3

4x/3-x=20-40/3

x/3=20/3

x=20

2x=40

Jay's father's age next year =41 years
