1. a. (-3) - (-5) > (-4) + (-9)

(-3) - (-5)

= (-3) + 5

= (+2)

(-4) + (-9)

= (-13)

2 > (-13)

b. 71 - 2 - 31 < 71 - 2 + 31

71 - 2 - 31

= 69 - 31

= +38

71 - 2 + 31

= 69 + 31

= +100

38 < 100

c. 39 + (-35) - 58 < 37 + (-11) - (+26)

39 + (-35) - 58

= 4 - 58

= -54

37 + (-11) - (+26)

= 26 - (+26)

= 0

(-54) < 0

d. 23 + (-8) - 7 = 9 - 13 + 12

23 + (-8) - 7

= 15 - 7

= 8

9 - 13 + 12

= (-4) + 12

= 8

8 = 8
