Epimetheus and his brother Prometheus lived in ancient Greece. Prometheus had stolen fire from the god
and gifted it to humans. This had made the god angry and they decided to punish the brothers.
The gods created a beautiful woman named Pandora, who Epimetheus married. The couple lived happily
together, until one day, the god Mercury arrived, carrying a beautiful box. He asked them to keep the box
for him until he returned from his travels and warned them not to open it. What Epimetheus did not know
was that this was part of the plan to punish him.
Pandora was very curious to know what was in the box. She could not stop thinking about it and began to
imagine the treasures it might contain. Soon she could not hold back her curiosity and one day, when
Epimetheus was away, she opened the box.
Instead of treasures she had expected, Pandora was horrified to find that the gods had packed the box full
of evils! Out of the box flew Greed and Anger, Pride and Envy, Misery and Illness – all shaped like tiny
insects that stung Pandora and escaped into the world.
Then Pandora heard a gentle voice calling to her from the box, asking to let her out. As Pandora let her
out, fluttered Hope, and it touched and healed Pandora's wounds. Thus gods punished humans by
