Dhanpat Rai Premchand, popularly known as Munshi Prem Chand was born on 31st July, 1880 in Lamhi, U.P. He had a hard time when he lost his mother when he was only 7. He got married against his will when he was 15. He started teaching in ₹18 per month. He also worked as a deputy sub-inspector of school. He wrote over 300 stories, a dozen novels and 2 plays in which he used simple language so that people can understand them. His some of the famous novels were Idgah, Godann, Nirmala, etc. He was also a great social reformer and wrote stories against corruption, poverty, zamindari, debt, etc. He died on 8th October, 1936.
