Thank you for this question.

The person who was asked to produce the maps of Hindustan by Robert Clive was;

James Rennel, an English geographer, historian and oceanographer.

After producing accurate maps of Bengal and India he was called the "Father of Indian Geography" and the "Father of Oceanography".

Under the service of the British East India Company, he conducted research on the Ganges River in order to find a waterway from Calcutta to the Northern regions of India. He helped the British to expand their trade by finding trade routes.

Robert Clive asked James Rennel to produce the first map of India so that he could have idea about the vastness of this country and how much he could occupy under East India Company.

Major James Rennel was a renowned British geographer of 18th century and served as the Surveyor General of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa on behalf of East India Company.
