Answer: It means the cell is placed in hypertonic solution. In hypertonic solution the water molecule concentration is low then inside the cell. So the water molecules present in the cell , move out of the cell through the process of diffusion. While this happens , the cell begins to shrink . This is known as plasmolysis.
