1. We inhale air through our nostrils where it is warmed, moistened, and filtered.

2. The larynx which is also called the "voice box" connects the pharynx to the trachea in neck.

3. The trachea divides into two tubes called bronchi which carry air into the lungs.

4. In the lungs, the tubes divide again until they become tiny tubes called Bronchioles.

5. A flap of tissue at the upper end of the larynx known as Epiglottis closes when we eat food.

Points to remember:-

  • The Trachea do not collide during exhalation because of the presence of cartilaginous rings in it.

  • The trachea divides into bronchi and bronchi further divide into branch like structure known as bronchioles. At the end of the bronchioles a sac like structure Is present known as alveoli which increase their surface area for the exchange of gases.

  • Alveoli contains capillaries in large amount because exchange of gases occur In alveoli itself.

  • A flap like structure at the upper end of larynx known as epiglottis closes when we eat food in order to prevent its entry in the wind pipe.
