Poor Granny! For her, it was like a brief season in hell,
Confined to her bedroom, while every breeze
Whispered of summer and dancing leaves.

Answer:

  • (a) The narrator and his family 'sigh in relief because grandma was ill and doctor prescribed her to take rest for some days (a week). Actually she was rescued from the top of the tree. And they thought she would stop climbing trees then.

  • (b) Granny was confined to bed because one day she climbed on the tree and did not come down and at last she was rescued. So doctor instructed her to take rest.
  • She found it a brief season in hell because for the cause of bed rest she was then unable to see and feel the outside around her. Moreover she was not well to climb on trees.

  • (c) Granny declared that no longer she confined to her bedroom. She wanted the poet's father to build a house on the tree for her so that she can take ease in it. Dutiful son kept her mother's will and made a wonderful house on the tree. Thus she finally escaped from this 'season in hell'.
