1. What are resources?

Resource refers to all the materials available in our environment which help us to satisfy our needs and wants.

Resources can broadly be classified upon their availability — they are classified into renewable and non-renewable resources.

They can also be classified as actual and potential on the basis of the level of development and use, on the basis of origin they can be classified as biotic and abiotic, and on the basis of their distribution, as ubiquitous and localised (private, community-owned, national and international resources).

An item becomes a resource with time and developing technology. The benefits of resource utilization may include increased wealth, proper functioning of a system, or enhanced well-being.

2. What are potential resources?

A type of natural resource that exists in a region and may be used in the future (in contrast to actual resource).

For example petroleum in India is and will be a potential resource as long as it has not been used yet or accessed for use.

3. Define biotic resources with examples

A type of natural resources derived from the biosphere as against abiotic resource from non-living things.

Examples of biotic resources are forests, animals, birds, fish, and marine organisms.

Mineral fuels are often considered biotic resources since they're derived from or products formed from decayed organic matter.

4. What is sustainable development?

"Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
