(1) What are the causes of environmental pollution? How can this problem be solved?
(2) Why is Biosphere the most important realm of the Earth? What are the threats to this sphere?
Answers
Explanation:
1) There are many causes of pollution including chemical pollution into bodies of water and soil through improper disposal practices and agricultural activities, and noise and light pollution created by cities and urbanization as a result of population growth.
2)The importance of the biosphere
The continued functioning of the biosphere is dependent not only on the maintenance of the intimate interactions among the myriad species within local communities but also on the looser yet crucial interactions of all species and communities around the globe. Earth is blanketed with so many species and so many different kinds of biological communities because populations have been able to adapt to almost any kind of environment on Earth through natural selection.
Answer:
1) The causes of environmental pollution are burning plastic which emits not only carbon dioxide, but also very toxic chemicals into the air. Industries and factories also emit harmful gases, like CO2. Cutting down of forests is very bad to the environment as no trees means imbalance in the atmosphere. Excessive usage of Air conditioners, Refrigerators and perfumes emit Chlorofluorocarbon (CFCl3 (1 Carbon, 1 Fluorine, 3 Chlorine)) which affects the ozone layer and harms it. If Ozone layer is gone, the UV rays of the sun will hit the Earth's surface and give us sunburns and skin cancer. The farts of cows release Methane (CH4 (1 Carbon, 4 Hydrogen)) which is a greenhouse gas.
8% of emissions are released by Concrete manufacturing industry. Food is a major pollutant in emissions. Rice alone emits so much methane that it is almost equivalent to the emissions of all the air traffic in the world. What’s worse is that the foods we like the most emit the most. 57% of food emissions come from animal-based foods, although they make up only 18% of the world’s calories, and 37% of its protein. The rise of industrial style meat production and factory farming, Meat has become a staple food; a regular indulgence in developed countries and a symbol of status and wealth in developing countries. Today about 40 percent of the world’s habitable land is used for meat production in some form or another, the size of North and South America combined. We could use this land to regrow forests, but most of it is used for feeding animals.
How to solve? Stop burning plastic and waste; RRR, Use EV cars, plant more trees, stop excessive use of CFC emitters, and eat less meat. Is there any technology to remove excess greenhouse gas so we can enjoy our meat, drive everyday etc.? Yes, Direct Air Capture of CO2draws carbon dioxide from the air so that it can be stored underground or transformed into products. We cant implement it in every industry because it will cost some 10 trillion dollars per year, or say Half of US' GDP.
2) Biosphere provides life in Earth with the help of Hydrosphere and Atmosphere. We live in the Biosphere. The threats to this sphere are
human activity, POLLUTION, Climate change, renewable resource depletion, etc.
I hope it helps you. <3
