No metallurgy- hence all tools are made of stone, wood, clay, or animal parts like bone, skins and sinew. Other characteristics is a mostly hunter gatherer based society, with little, or no agriculture. Most humans are nomadic and move with the availability of food. Groups, or tribes are fairly small.

Stone Age people were not as developed as we are now. This period got its name due to the stone tools used extesively by humans in this time. There were also some species which are now extint (like mamotths).

Paleolithic humans travelled from one place to other in search of food, temporary shelter and water. They were not developed and so, they could  not modify natural materials for their use, and hence, they could not make permanent shelters.
