ANSWER:

(1)

There are three Components of Maps – distance, direction and symbol. Maps are drawings, which reduce the entire world or a part of it to fit on a sheet of paper. Or we can say maps are drawn to reduced scales. But this reduction is done very carefully so that the distance between the places is real.

(3)

Symbols are required in preparing maps in order to refer to certain geographical features in a concise way. For example, a triangle can be a symbol for a mountain. That way, mountains can be shown with a small triangle in the map. This will save a lot of space in the map.

(5)

Political Maps - does not show physical features. Instead, they show state and national boundaries and capital and major cities. Physical Maps - illustrate the physical features of an area, such as the mountains, rivers and lakes. Topographic Maps - include contour lines to show the shape and elevation of an area.

Thematic maps can be used for exploratory spatial data analysis, confirming hypotheses, synthesizing spatial data by revealing patterns and relationships, and data presentation.
