Answer:

n highly organized plants, transport system consists of vascular tissue, namely xylem and phloem. Xylem carries water from roots to different parts of the plants. Phloem carries nutrients and food from leaves to different parts of the plants. Xylem is made up of tracheids, vessels, xylem parenchyma and xylem fibres. It is a lignified tissue. Evaporation of water from the leaves creates a transpiration pull. This results in the upward movement of water from the roots through the xylem. It shows only unidirectional flow.

Phloem is a non-lignified tissue. It is made up of sieve tubes, companion cells, phloem parenchyma and phloem fibres. They transport nutrients by the process of transportation. It shows multi-directional flow by using hydrostatic pressure.

The highly organised plants contain conducting tissues like xylem and phloem. Xylem transports water and minerals from roots to aerial parts of the plant whereas phloem transport food from leaves to other parts of the plant.
