1. The major disadvantage of Shifting Cultivation is that many trees in the forest are cut and this increases soil infertility and leads to soil erosion.
2. The Kalangs belonged to Java. They were a community of skilled forest cutters and shifting cultivators. They were important because without their expertise it was difficult to harvest teak. ... Though the Kalangs resisted by attacking the Dutch fort at Joava, the uprising was suppressed.
3. The people of Bastar started a revolt against the British because of the following reasons: The government proposed to reserve two-thirds of the forest in 1905 and planned to ban shifting cultivation, hunting and collection of forest produce.
