1. Wool comes from sheep, goat, yak and some other animals. These wool-yielding animals bear hair on their body.

2. Four types of natural silk produced around the world: Mulberry silk, Eri silk, Tasar silk and Muga silk.

3. They have a thich coat of hair as it acts like a jacket to them and is used to preserve heat. The layer of hair acts like a natural heat barrier and kepps the body warm.

4. Once a sheep develops a thick coat of hair, it is shaved off to obtain wool. The process of cutting off the woolen fleece of sheep with a thin layer of skin is called shearing. It is done by the machines which removes the hair.

5. In general, combed fibres are cleaner, finer, stronger and more lustrous than carded ones. Combed fibres are generally used for producing worsted threads. Carding is a technique whereby two hand or machine cards are used.

6. Rayon is a synthetic fiber or man-made fiber or artificial fiber as it is prepared from the natural raw material called cellulose.

7. Sericulture, or silk farming, is the cultivation of silkworms to produce silk.
