Earthquake is caused due to inner pressure within our Earth. Its a sudden shaking of the Earth's crust which lasts for some time. The movement of tectonic plates cause earthquakes. It causes severe destruction. The shaking movements that are produced by an earthquake are known as seismic waves. Focus is a term used for the place that's within the earth and from where the earthquake is basically originated. Epicentre is used to describe the place which is directly above the focus. Richter scale is used to measure magnitude of the earthquake.

Precautions during an earthquake:-
- If you are feeling that there's a shake, move to an open area. Never ever remain inside house, school or building.
- Do remember that open areas are not always safe so in such areas do not stand near things that might fall on you. Examples:- Electric poles, transmission towers, trees etc.
- Maintain a distance from windows, shelves, book cases, fans, any hanging pots etc. Maintain this distance for some time even after earthquake stops.
- Do not drive in such situation, stop your vehicles and get out of it.
- Avoid the use of flyovers or bridges Because after earthquake they may be cracked or damaged suddenly.
- Never ever panic in such situations if you are inside any hall or stadium be there.
- Avoid the use of lifts, use staircase without being panic.
- Do co-operate with rescue teams and volunteers in the camps.
