Answers
Answer:
1. The author's grandmother had many admirable qualities in her. She was strong, spiritual, kind, generous, and courageous. She was a very strong woman who could adapt herself to any new challenging situation. May be she derived that strength from her devotion to God.
2 The turning point in the narrator's and his grandmother's friendship came when the author was summoned to the city by his parents. In the village, he and his grandmother had been going together to the school . His grandmother was also able to help him with his studies.
3.The author's grandmother was disturbed when he started going to the school because in city school he learnt English words and western science and learning the law of gravity, Archimedes' principles. She was distressed that they were not taught about God and the scriptures.
4.When the grandmother went to the city, she took to feed the sparrows in the afternoon. The sparrows became so attached to her that they used to sit on her legs, shoulders and even on her head. She used to smile but never shooed them away. When the grandmother died, every family member mourned. This is natural for humans but when the family members went to make arrangements for her funeral, thousands of sparrows sat scattered on the floor all over the verandah and in her room right up to where she lay dead and stiff wrapped in the red shroud. They were not chirping. Instead, they were sitting quietly. When the author’s mother threw bread crumbs to the sparrows, they took no notice of it. All these things show that everybody including the sparrows mourned the grandmother.
