The Golden Bowl by Jatak Tales is a story of two pot sellers, one who was greedy and the other who was honest. Both these pot sellers used to sell pots and pans in the city of Andhapura. There was on the same city an old lady and her granddaughter. They had several pold pots and pans lying in their house and amongst those pots and pans there was a gold pot which the old lady and her granddaughter never knew of as the pot was dirty. One day when the greedy seller was selling his pots and pans, the young girl insisted her grandmother to exchange the dirty (gold) pot for a plate from the greedy seller. The greedy seller who had suspected that the pot was made of gold pretended before the old lady and her granddaughter that the pot was of no use and threw the pot rudely on to the ground; he thought by doing this he would come next day and get the pot for nothing. However, the next day the honest pot seller Serivan had happen to know about the gold pot and he had told the old lady and her granddaughter about it. He also paid the old lady 500 coins and gave all his pots and pans in exchange for the gold pot, and kept only 8 silver coins to pay the boatman for taking him to the other side of the river where he (Serivan) lived The greedy seller who had come to take the pot the next day from the old lady, came to know that the old lady had realised that the pot was made of gold and that the honest seller had taken the pot in exchange of money and wares, was angry and insulted.
EXPLANATION:
