Several highly respectable newspapers such as The Times, Standard, Morning Post etc called Mr. Fogg's project a madness. This caused the people to think that he was lunatic. The Daily Telegraph alone supported him hesitatingly, but the majority was against him. The Royal Geographical Society called it a folly. On a whole, the newspapers took a great interest in analysing the pros and cons of the matter.
