Explanation:

1) The poet calls Macavity the “hidden Paw”- because he is always hiding. The Scotland Yard police do not have his footprints and therefore they cannot catch him.

2) If there is someone who has sunken eyes and a deeply lined forehead; whose coat is dusty and whiskers uncombed, one should be sure that he is encountering Macavity. In addition to this, Macavity's head always moves from side-to-side like the movement of the snake.

3) The third stanza of the poem describes the physical appearance of the cat with, light reddish yellow color (golden mostly) and is very tall and thin in body. The poet also describes the cat having deep-set eyes with properly lined eyebrows as if the cat is in deep thought.

4) Eliot described Macavity as a ginger cat who is both tall and thin. ... The cat was tall and thin with sunken eyes, domed head, deeply lined eyebrows. His coat was dusty and his whiskers were uncombed. (iv) The poet described its movement like a snake.
