1. Tissue, in physiology, a level of organization in multicellular organisms; it consists of a group of structurally and functionally similar cells and their intercellular material.

2. In multicellular organisms, several cells are grouped to form tissues. These tissues perform particular function at a definite place in the body. For example, nerve cells from the nervous tissue which helps in transmission of messages. This is known as division of labour in multicellular organisms.
