Ferromagnetism is the basic mechanism by which certain materials (such as iron) form permanent magnets, or are attracted to magnets. In physics, several different types of magnetism are distinguished.

The substances containing large number of electrons can be permanently magnetised, this property is called as ferromagnetism. Iron consists of four unpaired electrons, hence it is strongly ferromagnetic.
