Basicity of an acid refers to the number of replacable hydrogen present in an acid.

For example

  • Hydrochloric acid (HCl) has a
  • basicity of 1
  • Sulphuric acid (H2SO4) has a basicity of 2.
  • Nitric acid (HNO3)has a basicity of 1.
  • Carbonic acid (H2CO3)has a basicity of 2.
  • Acetic acid (CH3COOH) has a basicity of 1.
  • Hydrobromic acid (HBr) has a basicity of 1.

Note:-

Basicity of 1=Monobasic acid.

Basicity of 2=Dibasic acid.

Basicity of 3=Tribasic acid.
