2. Clayey soil is rich in humus and very fertile. So, crops like wheat grow well in clayey soil.

3. A Horizon is the top layer of soil also called Topsoil. This layer is rich in various microorganisms, minerals and humus. It is the most fertile layer of soil.

4. Each layer of soil differs in feel (texture), color, depth and chemical composition. These layers are called horizons.

5. Trees reduce the effect of erosive forces using their root systems and foliage. Trees have thick root systems that branch into fine filaments and create a network. This network of root systems help stabilize the soil around the tree and hold it in place.
