Formula used :-

  • When, x cuts in direction, Total pieces formed = (x + 1) .
  • When x cuts in one direction and y cuts in another direction, Total pieces formed = (x + 1)(y + 1) .

Solution :-

given that,

→ Total cuts in one direction = 5 = x

So,

→ Total pieces formed in that direction = (x + 1) = (5 + 1) = 6

and,

→ Total cuts in one direction = 7 = y

So,

→ Total pieces formed in that direction = (y + 1) = (7 + 1) = 8

then,

→ Total pieces formed = (x + 1)(y + 1) = 6 × 8 = 48 pieces (c) (Ans.)
