Ans] The author did'nt wanted to dive because she wore glasses, she thought she would'nt be able to see without water, she will not be able to dive.

Ans]  Duck diving is diving nose first [way a duck puts is head down and bottom up in the air when diving underwater]. The instructor told 'youre swimming on the surface of the water and suddenly you end up duck diving.
