USES OF OXYGEN - DEFINITION
Oxygen is used to make sulphuric acid, nitric acid and other compounds. Hot oxygen air is required to make steel and iron in blast furnaces. Industries use the gas for cutting, welding and melting metals. Oxygen cylinders are provided to patients who have difficulty breathing.
AIR AROUND US - RESULT
Air is present everywhere around us and it is must requirement for all living beings. We must not have seen air but we always feel its presence around us. For example, when the leaves of the trees rustle or the clothes hanging on a clothes-line sway. Pages of an open book begin fluttering when the fan is switched on.
Air is a mixture of different gases, e.g., nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, argon etc. It also constitutes some dust particles.
Atmosphere is composed molecules of different gases, e.g., nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide etc. Nitrogen accounts for 78%, oxygen accounts for 21%, argon accounts for 0.9% and like carbon dioxide, nitrous oxides, methane, and ozone are trace gases that account for about a tenth of 1 percent of the atmosphere.
