3.In which part of the small intestine absorption of food take place?
Answer ⬇
1. Bile is a fluid that is made and released by the liver and stored in the gallbladder.
2. Most chemical digestion occurs in the duodenum where the digestive enzymes - pepsin from the stomach and amylases, lipases and proteases from the pancreas - are all available. The cells of the mucosal epithelium of the small intestine also produce enzymes that help complete digestion, particularly of proteins.
3. Absorption of the majority of nutrients takes place in the jejunum, with the following notable exceptions: Iron is absorbed in the duodenum. Vitamin B12 and bile salts are absorbed in the terminal ileum. Water and lipids are absorbed by passive diffusion throughout the small intestine.
