1. Shikha Goyal. Bhupen Hazarika was born on 8 September, 1926 in Tinsukia district, Assam. Due to his evergreen songs, he was also known as 'Bard of Brahmaputra'.

2. His father was originally from Nazira, a town located in Sivasagar district. The eldest of ten children, Bhupen Hazarika (as also his siblings) was exposed to the musical influence of his mother, who exposed him to lullabies and traditional Music of Assam.

3. He inherited his singing skills from his mother who sang lullabies to him and introduced him to the state's folk music. A child prodigy, Hazarika wrote his first song at 13. His talent was spotted by noted Assamese lyricist Jyotiprasad Agarwala and artist Bishnu Prasad Rabha.
