1) Both magnesium and calcium are in the second vertical column on the periodic chart. Calcium has a much less vigorous reaction. A more reactive metal will displace a less reactive metal from a compound. Sodium metal reacts vigorously with all the halogens to form sodium halides.

2)reactants: nitrogen and hydrogen; product: ammonia.

reactants: magnesium hydroxide and nitric acid; products: magnesium nitrate and water.

N 2 + 3H 2 → 2NH 3

Mg(OH) 2 + 2HNO 3 → Mg(NO 3) 2 + 2H 2O.

2NaClO 3 → 2NaCl + 3O 2

4Al + 3O 2 → 2Al 2O 3

N 2(g) + 3H 2(g) → 2NH 3(g)

3) The representation of a chemical reaction in the form of substances is known as a chemical equation. The equation in which the number of atoms of all the molecules is equal on both sides of the equation is known as a balanced chemical equation
