A plasma membrane envelopes the whole body of sperms. the sperm head contains a very little cytoplasm, an elongated haploid nucleus. the anterior portion of which is covered by a cap-like structure, acrosome. The acrosome is filled with enzymes that help in fertilization of ovum. These enzymes called sperm lysines that dissolve the membranes enveloping the ovum and help the sperm cell to enter the ovum by penetrating egg membrane. Acrosome is derived from Golgi apparatus. it's membrane extends down the outer surface of nucleus.
