The answers are as follows:
- The pigment that gives green color to the leaves is called chlorophyll.
- The function of chlorophyll is to trap the sunlight coming from the sun which useful for the plants to make their food i.e. during the process of photosynthesis.
- When Arti boiled a leaf and poured a strong sugar solution over it, she observed that the leaves did not absorb any water because they were dead as she had boiled them due to which the living cells in the leaves were destroyed. Only living leaves could do so.
- Plasmolysis occurs when the plants lose their water and due to which the contract their protoplasm in order to reduce the loss of water anymore.
