Robert Hooke discovered cells while observing a cork under a microscope. He observed a honeycomb like structure. But it was later discovered that cork cells are dead cells.
Why is cell called the structural and functional unit of life?
Cells form tissues, tissues form organs, organs form organ systems and organ systems form organisms. If we take out cells from this equation, no organism would ever exist. That’s why cells are the structural unit of life.
Cells are the functional unit of life because of there were no cells, our body would not perform any functions.
