2.50 years ago, Christian de Duve introduced the term “suicide bags” to describe lysosomes (1), the organelles containing numerous hydrolases, which were, until the discovery of the ubiquitin-proteasome system, thought to be responsible for the major part of the intracellular turnover of proteins and other macromolecules .......

1. Robert hooke discovered cells in 1665. He observed them while examining a thin slice of cork under his self made crude microscope as hollow compartments bounded by wall. however what hooke actually saw was the dead cell walls of the plant cells as it appeared under the microscope.
2. lysosomes are membrane-bound sacs
which contain hydrolytic enzymes. if
lysosomes burst, enzymes are released and digest other organelles of the same
cell. Therefore they are called suicide
bags.
