There were mainly two people who fueled up Richard's capabilities and made him one of the most renowned American Molecular Biologist - his mother and Dr Frederic A. Urquhart.
Ebright's mother: She claimed that Richard was her everything until his father died when Richard was in third grade. She fueled up his curiosity and interest in learning. She was a devoted mother who spent a great deal of time with young Ebright. She bought him telescopes, microscopes, cameras, mounting materials and other equipment. She more than made up for the company Ebright lacked. They did things together and she found things for him to do. Not just physical things, but learning things for his active and sharp brain. Right guidance at the right time can be the strongest factor in one's success in life. She recognised his insatiable curiosity, gave him direction and provided him with a suitable environment for research. Ebright's mother's support and efforts proved instrumental in his contribution to the world of science.
Dr Frederic A. Urquhart: Ebright had earned a chance to take guidance from him in his research quite by accident when the book bought by his mother gave information that young butterfly researchers can write up to Dr Urquhart and send him tagged butterflies. Dr Urquhart was a Canadian Zoologist from the University of Toronto, Canada. He supported Ebright in his research and fueled him up with new ideas. These ideas helped Richard win in the following county fairs and gave him new inspiration. Dr Urquhart, being a logical scientist, he also refused to believe that the twelve golden spots on the monarch pupae were merely ornamental. He proved important in the later years of Ebright's life from his secondary schooling when Ebright's mother couldn't support him thereon.
