1. The early Nationalist that is the Moderates dominated first phase of congress, who generally comprised of elites believed that they could achieve their objectives under the guidance of the British rule .
b. They believed in constitutional methods like holding meetings, passing resolutions in getting their demands fulfilled.
c. The British through various methods tried to appease the moderates, as they wanted a group of people who would support them and would not turn totally hostile towards them.
d. British believed by granting certain political concessions, they would give an impression to Indians that British are listening and responding to their demands and that moderates can be used for social causes.
