1. Why does a man slip when he steps on a banana peel thrown on the road?
2.. Explain why:
(a) A pencil will write on paper but not on glass
(b) The handles of motor cycle are covered with a rubber sheet with spikes
(c) The soles of our shoes wear out gradually.
(d) Tyres of car wear out gradually.

1. This is because the banana peel reduces the friction between our foot and the road.

2. a) This is because there is comparatively more friction on paper which provides enough roughness to write than the glass.
b) This is done so that it can provide more friction and our hands does not slip which prevents us from falling down.
c) Since, friction causes wearand tear, the soles of our shoes gets rubbed with the surface which results it in wearing out.
d) This is also due to wearing out because of friction as the tyres get rubbed with the surface.
