The poet feels guilty of himself as he didn't really want to hurt the snake who had came to drink water from its hole on a summer.At first he heard to his mind and didn't disturb the snake but later when he judged with his brain he decided to throw a log at the snake who was returning back to its hole.The courage shown by the poet here is due to the sudden way in which he took the situation.And the hospitality shown is the poets kindness shown towards another living organisum
