Friction is called an necessary evil because, it has both some good effects as well as some side-effects. Good effects such as without frictional force we would not be able to apply brakes in our car, the ground will be too slippery and dangerous to walk on and we would not able to erase anything with help of an eraser because it use the frictional force too. Some side-effects are that our soules of the shoes get weared off. Tyres of vehicles get worn off. I hope this answer was helpful. Thank
