Because it is a very safe and convenient device. The fuse wire is stretched between two terminals in a porcelain holder. This porcelain holder is tightly fit into a porcelain socket which

is connected in the live wire in the circuit. Porcelain is a very good insulator and the part of the holder we touch, is far from the live wire and so there are no dangers of getting any electric shock.

In electronics and electrical engineering, a fuse is an electrical safety device that operates to provide overcurrent protection of an electrical circuit. Its essential component is a metal wire or strip that melts when too much current flows through it, thereby interrupting the current.
