We are asked a few questions which we are asked to reply. The answers to the questions asked us will be as under:
- The soil in the low-lying areas is generally more fertile than the soil of the mountain slopes due to the lack of erosion. Due to erosion, the fertile nutrients that are contained in the soil in the mountainous regions are washed away and so the soil becomes unfertile. This is not the reason for low-lying areas.
- To prevent the soil degradation that takes place due to landslides there should be an improvement in the drainage systems, we can try to reduce the gradient of the slope by excavating the top of the slopes. We should also try to build a protective wall to strengthen the bottom of the slope. To prevent erosion, the plants should be grown throughout the year which prevents the soil from eroding away. This thus limits their exposure to the wind and the rain.
- I would try to convert it into fertile farmland by using the technique of cross-cropping. This would make the land fertile during the year and along with this, I would use only natural fertilizers on my land.
- The clayey soil is the soil that contains a high percentage of clay particles. Due to having these clay particles, it is slow to drain water and quick to harden leading to water logging. This blocks root absorption, which prevents plants from getting the nutrients that are required for survival. So plants do not grow well in clay soil.
- The factors that influence soil formation are parent material, climate, the Role of Precipitation, the role of temperature, Biota, Topography, and Time. These all play a very important role in the formation of the soil as it is only on the surrounding that the soil will be considered fertile or not.
