1 The 18308 were the years of great economic hardship in Europe due to the following reasons : (i) There was enormous increase in population all over Europe. (ii) There were more seekers of jobs than employment. (iii) People migrated from rural areas to the cities to live in overcrowded slums.

2 Clearly, although Garibaldi was important to the unification of Italy, Cavour was the necessary link to create the unified state. ... This is where Garibaldi played a large role. He was able to gain many military victories in the name of a new Italy and the King of Piedmont Sardinia.

3 The French revolutionaries took many important steps to create a sense of collective identity among the French people which were: Ideas of la patrie (the fatherland) and le citoyen (the citizen) emphasising the notion of a united community enjoying equal rights under a constitution.
