There are 3 factors:

  • Nearer to earth center, there is less mass that contributes to the force of gravity (as newton showed the outer shell of mass contributes net force of zero).
  • The distance to the center of gravity of earth reduces.
  • Deeper down, the density (mass per volume) will increase.

The value of g changes while going deep inside the earth . It goes on decreasing as we go from the earth's surface towards the earth's centre.
