An oxygen molecule consists of two oxygen atoms bonded to each other. They each have one unpaired electron, not used in the bonding. These unpaired electrons make the molecule diamagnetic.

Water molecules have one oxygen atom in the center and two hydrogen atoms, one on each side. The three atoms are NOT in a straight line, there is a 105-degree bend at the oxygen atom. This is very important! Because the molecules are not straight, they do not stack neatly and that makes ice less dense than liquid water at the same temperature. It also makes water molecules polar so water can dissolve many things.
