Guwahati derives from the Assamese word "Guva ".it derives from the Guvaka..it mean areca nut and it's plant and "Hati" mean market of areca nut.it is particularly famous for its Kamakhya temple situated stop the nilachal hills at distance 10 km from the railway station. Lot of foreigners tourist are seen in Guwahati enroute to kaziranga wild life resort and ,tea gardens and it is very safe place .
