2. The Dravidian Style of Architecture can be mainly seen in South India and some South-East Indian countries where South Indian Kings like Rajendra Chola ruled. One of the major style of Dravidian architecture are the South Indian Temples. Some key features of these temple include:

  • The gopuram or the gateways were the entrygates to the temple and had intricate carvings on them which generally included humans, animals and other living beings living lavish lives.
  • The mandalam or the assembly hall was the next feature. It is the place in front of the main shrine for people to sit and worship in the temple.
  • The garbhagriha or the sanctum sanctorum was the place where the idol of the deity was jnstalled.
  • One main feature were the vimanas. These were towers on the temples which extensed to a height of about 190 feet. This architecture actually introduced tye vimana system to South Indian temples.
  • There wer large and delucate carvings on tge whole temple complex.
  • these twmples had large foundations as they were even used as trading centre heads near oceans and seas by South Indian Kings.
  • These temples were even used as schools for South Indian Kids.
  • Temples were tge main employers of tge kingdom as well.

One example cab be Brihadeshwara Temple where the Shiva Lingam is made with a monolithic rock.
