Rural livelihood: Agriculture is the cheif occupation of the villagers in India. Th

ey are mostly farmers. There are however, other people who follow different occupations. There are engaed in dairy farms, fisherman, shopkeepers, blacksmith, carpenter, weavers, potters and barbers. All of them from the village community.

URBAN LIVELIHOOD: A much larger number of people inhabit the cities and metropolses like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. This numberoften crosses more than a million. This vast population consists of different types of people who earn their livelihood in a variety of ways. Some of them are self-employed and some are employed by others. At times, they also organise themselves to carry on their jobs on a regular basis. In cities, however, we find most of the people pursing secondary or teritary occupation.
