(i) Electron Dot Structure:

• Sodium (2, 8, 1) = one electron at the top of Na.

• Oxygen (2, 6) = O two electrons each on three sides of O.

• Magnesium (2, 8, 2) = two electrons on the top of Mg.

The ions present in Na2O are sodium ions 2Na+ and oxide ion O2-. The ions present in MgO are magnesium ion Mg2+ and oxide ion O2-.
