  2. Root hairs are where most water absorption happens. They are long and so they can penetrate between soil particles, and prevent harmful bacterial organisms from entering the plant through the xylem vessels. They have a large surface area for absorption of water.
  3. Cell membrane is a selecyively permeable membrane as it allows only some substances to move in and out of the cell. All substances cannot move about freely through it.
  4. The movement of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane from a region of high water concentration to low water concentration is called osmosis. A solution where there is higher water concentration outside the cell is called a hypotonic solution
